Wendy Shay was born on February 20, 1996, in Accra, Ghana. She is currently 28 years of age and hails from Obo Kwahu in the Eastern Region. The songstress was brought up in Stuttgart, Germany. Her father, David Akwasi Asiamah passed away when she was 2 years old. Wendy’s a first child of her parents. She has a younger sister, called Joycelyn Addo from her parents and two other siblings from her mother’s side.

Wendy Shay’s parents are David Akwasi Asiamah and Madam Janet (Obaapa Kakyire). Obaapa Kakyire is alive and residing in Germany, but we lost David Akwasi Asiamah. He passed away when Wendy was two years old, and at that time, his wife, Obaapa, was expecting their second child, Wendy’s younger sister Joycelyn.

The self-called Queen of Ghana music, attended Morning Star School and St. Martin de Porres School in Dansoman, Accra in her early life in Ghana. When Wendy turned12-13, she joined her mum in Germany, and continued her education in Stuttgart from Class 7/Grade 7. Along the way, she attended a music school in Bernhausen, Germany, before finishing high school and going to Nursing College. Wendy has a nursing certificate and experience as midwife. In 2021, she graduated from the Concord Business College in Accra, Ghana, with an HND in Business and Marketing Management.

Career
Wendy Shay had a dream of being a musician at a young age, because she is a good singer and she comes from a musical family. Wendy’s grandmother (mother’s mother) loved to sing and play a certain type of musical instrument, and the legendary Ghanaian highlife Nana Kwame Ampedu was also related. Upon starting school in Germany, she enrolled in a music school in Bernhausen where she learnt performance skills such as how to hold a microphone and other aspects of performance. As she was only fourteen when she began her music training, she stopped at eighteen to complete her studies.
In 2016, following her completion of Nursing College in Germany, Wendy Shay completed a year long intern as a midwife in a Hospital in Germany when she decided to continue her professional journey in music. She got started by recording Demos. In 2018, after being introduced to Bullet, her present manager, through her Godfather, Mr. Kwesi Ernest, she signed with the record label run by Bullet named, RuffTown Records, after the death of artist Ebony Reigns. Wendy released her first single under RuffTown titled, “Uber Driver,” in June 2018 which immediately became popular and rapidly obtained the most music video views within a month on YouTube. Following her first single she has released over fifteen songs under RuffTown, three albums and one External Play (EP).
