EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
John Dumelo was born in Tema, Accra, Ghana, as the last of three siblings. His father is a chemical engineer, while his late mother worked as a retired customs officer, which allowed him to learn from a young age the value of hard work and commitment. His early education was completed at Christ the King School as a junior high school student, and he also continued his education at Achimota School. He studied Civil Engineering and at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he served as an Organizing Secretary for the Civil Engineering Students Association. He also continued his studies at the Ghana Institute of Management and Professional Studies (GIMPA) in Public Service and Governance.

John Dumelo is blissfully married to a lawyer called Gifty Mawunya Nkornu, and they have two lovely children, John Dumelo Jr. and Malike Dumelo, whose name is an Ewe name meaning “I shall be established,” which is similar to the wishes or dreams the family has for their children.
ACTING CAREER
John’s acting career died in 1991 at age 7 when he got no role in a film called Baby Thief. His mother had hoped that he would eventually become a priest; however, John’s interest in all things entertainment took precedence. He joined the drama club while attending Achimota School and, in addition, was named Mr. University while a student at KNUST. His acting career started with appearances in numerous television commercials and shows, including Sun City and About to Wed. Since then, he has acted in more than 80 films in Ghana and Nigeria, making him a household name in Africa. In April 2014, he became the first Ghanaian actor to reach 1 million followers on Facebook.
