CAREER
Akosua Agyapong recognized her acting and singing talent at an early age. During high school, Akosua became more of an entertainer at Holy Child Senior High School. She was the singer in the school, composer, and dancer. Because Akosua knew how to dance very well, she was called the “Small Robot.”
In 1986, following her completion of high school, Agyapong decided to go pro as a singer. She would ordinarily tell her mother what she wanted to do; however, she was not comfortable with her daughter’s choice of calling herself a musician because of all the negative things people said about musicians at that time.
However, for a very determined person, Akosua decided to use positive means to present to her mother for her to agree to her career choice. Akosua went to look for the Legendary Nana Ampadu at one of his shows, explained her story and he came home to convince her mom.
Knowing that Akosua’s mum was someone who really loved Nana Ampedu’s music, she accepted and allowed her daughter to be trained by the Legend. In 1988, she started her professional journey into music. She came out with her first album, “Frema,” on January 1, 1990. The songs on that album included “Me ye Obaa.” She subsequently released another album, not her second album, “Esiwa,” and a third album, which is “Kokooko.”
In the year 1992, Akosua, Rex Omar, and Nat Brew came together as a highlife group, “NAKOREX,” after they met at a show. They released their first group album, titled “Kpalogo,” and songs such as kpalogo, Odo Bema Me So,” etc.
The NAKOREX group became popular and well-known in Ghana, but after five years, the members of this group went their separate ways and became solo artists again.
Agyapong has released no less than five albums. In one of the albums, she collaborated with NAKOREX, while another album featured her as a member of NAKOREX, in addition to her solo artist albums.
