Grace Asantewaa was born on December 5, 2000, in Atebubu, Bono East Region of Ghana. Grace’s love for football developed at an early age as she played football with the boys in her area. She attended Atebubu R.C. Primary School, where she was captain of the school’s football team and played competitive football for the first time.

Grace got her big break during an inter-school regional tournament in Sunyani when she was scouted by one of Ghana’s premier women’s football clubs, Ampem Darkoa Ladies F.C. Moving to Techiman at the age of 14, her journey as a professional football player began in earnest.

 

HER CLUB CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

 

Grace’s experiences with Ampem Darkoa Ladies were quite amazing. In 2016, she helped Ampem win the Ghana Women’s Premier League title, scoring the winning goal against Hasaacas Ladies in the finals.

Grace’s efforts earned her a call-up with the Ghana U-17 Women’s National Team—Black Maidens, and her international career began. Grace’s skills and abilities attracted the attention of international scouts in 2019, and she then signed with EDF Logroño in Spain’s Primera Iberdrola, making it her first professional club outside of the UK. In two years with EDF Logroño, Grace made 45 appearances in the league, scored five goals, and was named MVP by her teammates and the staff of the club in December 2019.

In 2021, Grace signed with Real Betis Balompié Féminas and again had success, going from 28 appearances to seven goals in the league by the end of the season.

In July 2023, Grace signed with FC Juárez Femenil in Mexico and began her new chapter by putting the ball in the back of the net to start the campaign in a great 6-0 win against Club Necaxa. Grace’s versatility in leagues and environments is an additional testament to her talent and football intelligence.

 

INTERNATIONAL CAREER

Grace Asantewaa has been a key feature of Ghana’s various national teams at every level throughout her football career. Grace represented the Black Maidens at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan, where she gained valuable experience in an international tournament. Grace moved from the age groups to the U-20 team, the Black Princesses, and seamlessly transitioned to the senior team, the Black Queens.
