Early Life & Family Background

Kudus was born on August 2, 2000, in Kpongiri, a small town in the Savannah Region of Ghana. Kudus was raised in a modest family. Kudus parents, Mahama and Mariama Suleman, divorced when Kudus was very young. Kudus eventually moved to Nima, a busy suburb of Accra, where he was raised by his grandmother Abiba Suleman, and mother. While living in Nima, the young lad discovered his talent and love for football, playing with friends in the streets and dreaming of a better life.

Kudus’s family did not have much money, but they always supported his desire to play football. While Kudus was living with his uncle Suleman Iddrisu Kudus, he played football with his brothers every chance he could. Kudus’s story is one of perseverance and hope, as a result of the support he received from his family.

Educational Background

Kudus began schooling in Kpongiri and continued schooling in Nima. Kudus’s talent in football was recognized very early by his coaches, and it became his priority. Kudus played for Strong Tower FC until he was twelve years old and transitioned to Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, one of the best academies in the country. The Academy provided Kudus with education and football training. Right to Dream Academy was instrumental in kickstarting Kudus’s evolution into a footballer and enabled him to demonstrate his raw talent with exposure to international opportunities.

EARLY BEGINNINGS AT STRONG TOWER FC

Koudous’s football journey began at Strong Tower FC, a local club team in Nima. Kudus was scouted by Coach Joshua Awuah (Coach Ayuba), and as a result, he developed into one of the shining stars in the local tournament scene. Although he was a local kid and not recognized for his skill level, development & talent, local coaches and scouts were now being drawn to him in droves since he was breaking out as a player to watch. Kudus’s play was absolutely engrained in the thought process of numerous scouts from the Right to Dream Academy. When he was just 12, he attended the Right to Dream Academy. 

 

At Right to Dream, he developed as a player and gained international experience. He was part of the academy as they toured and went unbeaten throughout Europe, winning four trophies along the way, including the Nike World Under-15 Premier Cup.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

  1. FC Nordsjælland (2018–2020)

At the young age of 18, he signed a 5-year deal with FC Nordsjælland of Denmark; he was the ninth youngest debutant in the club’s history. He was developing into a very fine player, scoring 14 goals in 57 appearances in two seasons. He began to gain attention and was seen as one of the bright young talents to come out of Africa.

  1. AFC Ajax (2020–2023)

In July of 2020, Kudus signed with their Dutch giants, AFC Ajax; $9 million was the amount involved. Kudus spent three years at Ajax—in that time, he had numerous sensational performances, including some in the UEFA Champions League—some iconic moments, included an unreal goal against Rangers (2022/23).

Kudus had several injuries during his short time there (2020-2023), but still proved that he is resilient. It should be noted, he played 108 games (26 goals) for Ajax City and was truly a fan favorite. West Ham United (2023–Present)
