MzVee, named Vera Bubune Makafui Hamenoo-Kpeda, is an exciting act in the Ghanaian music scene who is known for her versatility between dancehall, reggae, R&B and Afropop. MzVee entered the music profession as part of a girl group; she then wanted to pursue it on her own, and after a short time she established a second career as a solo performer. She is a marvelous performer who has won over a lot of fans with her infectious passion and huge talent.
BACKGROUND AND EARLY LIFE
MzVee, born on June 23, 1992, came into this world in Labadi, Accra and is the last of four children in a close-knit family. Her father, Ernest Hamenoo-Kpeda, runs a successful business in the Volta Region, and her mother, Florence Hamenoo-Kpeda, is a caterer. MzVee spent her formative years living in North Kaneshie, Accra. An early inclination for singing (for example, her mother’s love of singing Ewe songs around the house) and subsequently a well-structured avenue for performing at her junior high and senior high schools began to cultivate in MzVee a love for performing.
MzVee attended Martin De Porres Junior High School and graduated from St. Mary’s Senior High School (Korle Gonno), where she served as the Entertainment Prefect. MzVee was very briefly enrolled in Central University in the first year of university and then transferred to Ghana Telecom University, where she graduated, armed with a valuable array of skills that were relevant to her aspirations of a music career.
MUSICAL JOURNEY
After this course of training, she entered the music industry as a member of a girl group named D3 in 2012 with Samira Buari and Angela Bamford. As the lead vocal of the group, she was instrumental in their hit song “Good Girls are Gone Bad”; the same is true for “Gyani Gyani,” one of the group’s major hits. They disbanded in 2013 and gave MzVee the independent opportunity to go solo with Lynx Entertainment, which is her current record label. MzVee’s single debut was in the song “Borkor Borkor”; the collaboration was with Zeal of VVIP, and although the song was released in 2014 it had a huge breakthrough effect on her young music career, as it was hugely successful. MzVee’s second single, “Natural Girl,” released in 2015 and really helped ignite and shine the star of Mzvee. MzVee’s first album, “Revelation,” was in 2014 and provided a brilliant way to see the artist differences in terms of her sound and artistry.
