EARLY LIFE
Ohemaa Mercy was born on 7th September 1977 in Weija, Accra, Ghana, but raised in Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana. She is the third of five children of the amoahs. Her family originates from the Elmina Central Region and talks to their tribe, Fante. Ohemaa was raised in a home of faith and discovered her love for music early on. At just nine years old, she was already singing in church, which provided her with connections to begin her life as a gospel minister.
EDUCATION
Ohemaa attended St. Peter’s Anglican School in Koforidua for her primary education before attending Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua for her secondary education. Ohemaa took her first step towards her love of teaching when she attended the S.D.A. Teachers Training College in Asokore, Koforidua, and received her Teachers Certificate “A” in 2003.

Before pursuing a career in music, Ohemaa worked professionally as a teacher; however, she felt a lifelong desire and appreciation for music, just like her mother, an educator. After graduating, she accepted her first teaching position at Sunyani Anglican Primary School before accepting a position at St. Peter’s Anglican School after marriage. Teaching, however, was not what God wanted for her. Ohemaa had a divine encounter with a servant of God in 2004, who encouraged her to produce her first album, Adamfo Papa, and from that she went on to have a continued path as a gospel minister and musician. Her three albums and countless singles have compelled people throughout the world.

This was her journey from high school, when she was part of a singing group called Golden Bells and was also the President of the Scripture Union (SU).
