Régine Chassagne Personal Life

Régine Alexandra Chassagne was born on August 19, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to parents who were Haitian with mixed African and French ancestry. Her parents and many of her grandparents escaped Haiti from the François Duvalier regime and killings. Parts of their family history surfaced in the Arcade Fire song titled “Haiti,” which referenced the 1964 Massacre of spiritual priests (Jérémie Vespers), where many of her relatives were either caught up in the violence or fled from it, including some who were arrested and imprisoned.

For elementary school, she attended Providence Prichard of Notre-Dame-de-Grâces, and scholarship requirements covered plenty of school from grades 7–11 (after serving in their higher school preference of Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf). Once fresh out of high school in 1994, she cheaply and professionally soon followed in the footsteps of Concordia University for an undergraduate degree in ongoing Communications Studies and graduated in 1998. Régine had also taken a semester-long jazz voice course in the evening at McGill University, which complemented her studies and experiences as an instrumentalist on a tall piano just before stories. Régine met her husband and fellow band member Win Butler in 2000 at a friend and mutual concert gallery and began playing in his band (which later became) Arcade Fire.
