EARLY LIFE
Obaapa Christy was born on December 7, 1981 in New Suame, Kumasi, to a family of nine children, of whom Obaapa Christy is the second born. Her parents, Mr. Akwesi Twene and Mrs. Mary Amoah Twene, are both natives of Drupem, a town in the Ashanti region. From an early age, Christy had a passion for singing, often leading praise and worship in school and at church.

MUSICAL JOURNEY
Obaapa Christy began singing at a young age in school and church choirs. After she left junior high school, she was invited to join a gospel group in Kumasi, called Hallelujah Voices, which allowed her to continue developing her skills as a singer. The group performed in churches and recorded some songs themselves, hence planting the seed of where she’d grow in her musical career.
In her share of many ups and downs in life, she had found her big break when up-and-coming gospel musician Osuani Afrifa discovered her smaller group and saw the potential and encouraged her to do a solo album. In 2002, Obaapa released her first album, Me Te Ase. It garnered quite a bit of attention and opened up the doors to her music career. To date, she has released 11 albums, showing her growth as an artist and the different styles of music she has had to venture into. In 2018, Obaapa Christy was recognized as a Reverend Minister by Bishop Adonteng Boateng of Divine Word International Ministries in Amsterdam as a way of validating her calling as a minister of God.
