Emelia Brobbey is a Ghanaian actress, musician, film producer, television presenter, entrepreneur and philanthropist. A very passionate and versatile person, she has become one of the most recognized faces in the entertainment industry in Ghana. Emelia hosted the well-known Okukuseku Talk Show, while she runs two natural mineral companies called EBice and Start Ice. She is relatively new to the music game, as she has a number of songs, including Fa Me Ko and Odo Electric, and has also starred in numerous Ghanaian movies in her career spanning more than 20 years, such as Frema, Adanfo Bone, and Kae, among others. Beyond Emelia’s work in front of cameras, she is also a philanthropist, with her philanthropic work with children done through her foundation.

Early Life and Family

Emelia was born on 6th January, 1982, in Akyem Swedru, Eastern Region, Ghana, to Madam Selina Nana Yaa Twumwaa Amponsah and Mr. Samuel Brobbey. Emelia is the first of three children, with one younger brother and a younger sister named Abena. Emelia’s upbringing in a family unit that was close-bound undoubtedly provided her with a strong sense of responsibility and inclination to lead, which has been synonymous with her career and her personal identity.

Educational Background

Emelia’s educational background is equally interesting, as is her general life, career, and family. Emelia attended St. Emelia Brobbey attended Agatha Girls’ School in Akyem Swedru for junior high and Akyem Swedru Senior High School, and she went on to study at Kyebi  Presbyterian Teacher’s Training College, where she became a trained professional teacher. Because she is so thirsty for knowledge, she began her journalism at Manifold Tutorial College in Accra and received a Diploma in Journalism as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and an ICM certificate in Broadcast Journalism.

 

Personal Life

Emelia Brobbey married Dr. Kofi Adu Boateng in 2010 and divorced in 2012. While she is in a relationship, she has not remarried. Emelia has two sons: one from her marriage and one from another relationship.

Career Journey

TEACHING CAREER

Before she started acting, Emelia was a professional teacher. She taught Ghanaian Language (Twi) and Agricultural Science at Obuasi JHS Complex. However, Emelia eventually followed her passion for acting and transitioned from teaching to the entertainment industry.

ACTING CAREER

Miracle Films cast Emelia in her first movie, Tribal War, in 2002, marking the beginning of her acting career. Her acting career began with the movie, and she went on to appear in over 200 movies, including Frema, Adofo Asa, Nyame Abasa, and Heroes of Africa (Tetteh Quarshie). Emelia has worked with many notable actors, including Nana Ama McBrown, Agya Koo, Mercy Asiedu, and Lil Win. Emelia is a film producer and has only produced Frema, Mekunu Wuo and Adanfo Bone.

MUSIC

Apart from acting, she is also a very skilled musician. She started her music career with the hit single Fa Me Ko, which received many good reviews. Other songs in her music catalog include Odo Electric and Makoma, which feature Wendy Shay and Kuami Eugene, respectively.
