Kofi Kinaata was born in Takoradi at Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital and raised in Effiakuma. He is the son of Charles King Arthur (a pastor) and Auntie Ama and has a brother named Charles (and other siblings). Kofi started school at Nana Brempong Yaw School and continued to Takoradi Technical Institute.
MUSIC CAREER: FROM RAPPING TO A TASTE OF STARDOM IN HIGHLIFE
Kofi began his music life as a teenager while transitioning from a rap career. He was in freestyle sessions and developing demos. His first recorded song, “Kikiliki,” was recorded in a local studio near his school. In 2009, he came to prominence as the first runner-up in the Melody FM (Kasahari) rap competition, and he got thrust into the limelight.
In 2013, his song “Onnyi Chorus” was beginning to get noticed, and he got a five-year contract with the legendary Samini Highgrade Family record label, and that’s when Kofi added a singing component to his rapping. After his contract ended, he became an independent artist, started Team Move Music, and continued to produce highlife and hiplife music.
Kofi Kinaata has certainly made a name for himself as a songwriter, and with this, he has won various awards for his songwriting capabilities. This includes the most coveted award of “Best Songwriter of the Year” at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, as well as various other award shows.
